We will consider the safety issues of the Oconee Nuclear Station and the risk posed by a possible
upstream earthen dam failure. We will learn about the risks of flooding at the reactor site and
associated potential for subsequent meltdown. Our presenters will be Diane Curran, one of the
country’s leading lawyers for environmental and nuclear safety; Frank Powell, Conservation Chair of
the Foothills Group; Paul Gunter, the Director of the Reactor Oversight Project Beyond Nuclear and
Jeff Mitman, nuclear engineering and probabilistic risk analysis consultant retired from the Nuclear
Regulatory Commission (NRC).
